The Wall That Heals displayed in Licking

  • The Wall That Heals, a half-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., was in Licking over the weekend. Displayed Friday through Sunday (July 4-6) at Lickingís Old City Park, the exhibition featured a 250-foot long replica of the famous wall (that lists names of the more than 58,000 American soldiers killed in Vietnam), as well as an information center and traveling museum. The traveling memorial is sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, a nonprofit organization authorized by the U.S. Congress in 1980 to build a national memorial dedicated to all U.S. military personnel who served in the Vietnam War ó now commonly referred to as The Wall.

Dutch oven cookers at the Farmers Market

  • The Texas County Dutch Oven Cookers conducted a demonstration last Friday morning at the Houston Farmers Market. During the event, Bob Roach, his cohorts Jim Eckley and Jim Kidwell cooked up dishes using ingredients provided by Farmers Market vendors, and then gave the food away to dozens of visitors. Farmers Market board chairman Steve Wilson donated much of the food, including various home-grown meats.

Mustang Family Reunion Ride

  • Hundreds of horse enthusiasts gathered June 22-28, 2014 at Golden Hills Trail Rides and Resort near Raymondville, Mo., for the inaugural Mustang Family Reunion Ride, hosted by Laura and Eric Dawson of Lone Star L Ranch in Lexington, Texas. The week-long event featured tips and education from numerous well-known horsemanship clinicians.

International Benchrest Shooters 2014 600-Yard Missouri State Championships

  • More than 40 of Missouriís best long-range marksmen took part last Saturday and Sunday in the International Benchrest Shooters (IBS) 2014 600-Yard Missouri State Championships at the Big Piney Sportsmanís Club, on Highway B east of Houston. Shooters competed in both light gun and heavy gun competition, shooting five-shot groupings at targets 600 yards down range. To view results, log onto the IBS website at
